LED Tecnology

RCS Industries and Canyon Computer is currently researching LED technologies for the development of a wider array of home lighting choices than are currently available.
While the market has allowed a certain easing of prices on some consumer LED's, the vast majority of what is out there is junk or too expensive to be economically feasable in the short term. And therein lies the rub, i. e. should I wait until the price gets cheaper, or keep paying the high fuel cost, since I probably can't afford the investment right now anyway.
The dust will settle, I just can't tell you exactly when or even where. Anybody telling you anything different is either a liar or stupid or maybe both.
We're researching the Texas Instrument controllers and this seems very promising. The folks at TI have been very generous with their products and knowledge and we will have some data by the end of the year. It is very challenging to have these new goals for a safer environment and greater control of our future as is the promise of widespread LED lighting. This is important, and we do take this challenge seriously.
I will be writing updates and leave Obama alone, (at least for now)

These Rates...

George Bush, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die and go to
hell. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is
for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth.

Putin asks to call Russia and talks for 5 minutes. When he is
finished the devil informs him that the cost is a million dollars,
so Putin writes him a check. Next Queen Elizabeth calls England and
talks for 30 minutes. When she is finished the devil informs her that
the cost is 6 million dollars, so she writes him a check.

Finally George Bush gets his turn and talks for 4 hours. When he is
finished the devil informs him that the cost is $5.00. When Putin
hears this he goes ballistic and asks the devil why Bush got to call
the USA so cheaply.

The devil smiles and replies: "Since Obama took over, the country
has gone to hell, so it's a local call."

Obama ratings drop

Left with a sour economy and and widespread discontentment, Obama rode in on a promise of new hope. I myself was very hopeful after the waning days of the Bush administration. But this hope has been throuugly dashed.
A lack of real leardership and even some kind of real plan has made him a sitting duck for the next round of canidates. But there are two things that we can do, even in this limited republic, i.e. vote him out (that's probaly the only way to really get rid of him), impeach the bastard (takes time) and also vote for the Republican party in the elections coming up this year.
I say do it all. We need to slow him down so he can't do any more damage. Then we might be able to resurrect the Constellation Program, which we've already spent over 11 B dollars on. Not to mention all the suffering of those people invoved with the program. But, they're not from Chicago and I guess he doesn't give a shit.
Well, I give a shit and I'm pissed off, so IMPEACH OBAMA NOW!!! and take n pelosi with him.

Dark matter, dark energy, dark whatever

Hi there, I'm your 'dark' salesman. We've got a special sale on 'dark' things this season. What's your problem today sonny? Equations not working out? Need a little fudge factor? I'm thinking on the order of 70-80%. No Problemo!
We know you cosmologists and astronomers work hard all thru the night to make our lives seem like they're worthwhile and we're here to help! Just tell us your problem and we'll design a 'dark' package just for you! The cost is small and the benefits are so enormous, not to mention, you get to keep your job. And what could be better in a sour Bush-Obama economy?
We've helped many persons just like yourself get over the daily drudgery of trying to make things come out right. Medical professionals around the world are using our packages to fight dark bacteria and dark viruses, using dark drugs as well. Our new product, dark microbes, will take this to an even higher level.
Still on the drawing board, but out soon, will be 'dark molecules', intended for highly advanced chemists, but can also be used by common housewives or husbands as well.
So don't delay any longer! We need these nagging problems fixed. Visit us on the web, we're under, you guessed it, 'the dark professionals'.
There is so much to gain, and the only loss you will incur is the lack of any scientific morality that you probably never had anyway.
As an added bonus for circumscribing right now, cosmologists recieve the bonus pack, "You will never be asked about quasars" and the companion, "They sure look like they're connected".

A Non-Letter to the Editor

ORANGE COUNTY ( CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER-New Immigrants
This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good
points..
For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady
made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange
County Paper...................

Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either
deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace!

From:
"David LaBonte"
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful
letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course,
was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by
sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so
inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the
editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island
and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept
this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when
there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the
United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a
long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made
a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in
good and bad times. They made learning English a primary
rule in their new American households and some even changed
their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their
children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was
handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws
to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
My father fought along side men whose parents had come
straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None
of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought
about what country their parents had come from. They were
Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of
Japan . They were defending the United States of America as
one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking
for the French-American or the German American or the Irish
American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we
carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of
those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up
another country's flag and waving it to represent who they
were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had
sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew
what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting
pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same
rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by
playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the
entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their
mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American
is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on
Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that
for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future
generations to create a land that has become a beacon for
those legally searching for a better life. I think they
would be appalled that they are being used as an example by
those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on
the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about
dismantling the United States just yet.

Install X-Plane 9 in Linux

Posted 26 March 2009 - 01:24 PM

On a new install of both Archlinux and X-Plane 9, I ran into a number of difficulties and maybe my experience can be of use to you.

In the first place X-Plane documentation is rather limited and with Linux it is even worse. Most of the things that are talked about, you already know, and the things that you are curious about aren't even mentioned. So here goes and please don't be mad at me if this doesn't work or I left something out Because, I am only trying to help.

Problem 1. Mounting the DVD
Best thing to do here is to install pmount first. These illistrations are for Archlinux, but you can adapt them for your distro:

pacman -S pmount

Now, try to mount your drive. Try something like this:

pmount -r /dev/sr0

If this does not work, try modifying your PolicyKit. In an editor (like nano or something) type:

Edit: This may no longer be necessary or even work. 12-16-2009

nano /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf

Now, that should enable us to mount the drive. Make sure openal is installed.

pacman -S openal

Copy the file Installer_Linux off the DVD and onto your HDD (hard disk) into a nice location (like maybe the desktop). The reason you have to do this is because you won't be able to eject the first disk because the computer is using that program on that disk. Even at that, you may have to force it to eject with "eject" in a terminal.

There is currently a bug going around and you may have to link the lib for openal 0 to openal 1. Now you could just rename the file, but there is a good chance that that might break something else, so until this is fixed, just do:

ln -s /usr/lib/libopenal.so.1 /usr/lib/libopenal.so.0

That's about it. You should be able to install. Make sure you install as a user and NOT root or you will have to run the sim as root and that IS NOT a good idea.

Hope this helps, I got this from various sources, but just wanted to put it together in one place. This is current as of this date (STS-119).

Let me know how this works and your feedback is important. Thanks.

Edit 3-12-2010:
Had a problem with a user acct. (me) and had to re-install. Same as always. But I made a big mistake and installed it as root and that does not work so well. Had to re-install again as user and no prob, ha silly me. Also changed the filename from 'X-Plane 9' to the more friendly xplane9.

iPad Hits the Street

On April 3, 2010, the new iPad became available in the US.
Touted as a link between cellular phones and the computer, it has recieved mixed reviews.

Journalist and sci-fi author Cory Doctorow has attacked the iPad for being too locked-down.

Looks like Obama's at it again

In a long list of stumbles, Obama finally put his face in the asphalt.

Obama criticizes persons for Obeying the law.

What bothers me more is the loss of our funding for the Constellation Program. In my view, this is more important than just about anything. We wouldn't have anything like we have now (good, bad or indifferent) if it weren't for the Apollo Program. So where's the future? In Corporations? I doubt it. It's not proven enough to know if they can make a profit. Who's knows what the insurance cost would be? Or would that be subsidized by the government? Now you're back to square one with even less control than you had before.

Look at how we could make money with an icebase on the moon:

Icebase

This might happen if we don't:

The cost of losing our edge in space.
